Web Design

A full website redesign for a 50-year-old volunteer-run museum — built to convert casual visitors into joy flight bookings and gift voucher purchases, while honouring the heritage and community spirit that keeps two vintage biplanes in the air.

Before

The existing website

The existing website

The original website had a simple but outdated layout with limited structure and weak visual hierarchy, making it difficult for users to quickly understand the offering or take action. Key elements like pricing, booking options, and calls-to-action were not prominently displayed, while content was presented in long text sections with minimal guidance. Overall, the experience felt static and lacked a clear user flow, especially for users looking to book a joy flight.

Branding

Branding

The client provided an existing logo, which served as the foundation for the visual direction. To maintain brand consistency, the color palette was directly derived from the logo. For typography, I paired Playfair Display for headings to reflect a classic, heritage feel, with Open Sans for body text to ensure readability and a clean, modern balance.

After

Final Design

The redesigned website gives users a much clearer path to book a joy flight, view pricing, and explore the museum’s story. The layout now highlights the main call to action, improves content hierarchy, and uses stronger visuals to reflect the vintage aviation experience.

Reflection

This project helped me understand the importance of clear content hierarchy and guiding users toward key actions. I learned how simplifying structure and prioritizing calls-to-action can significantly improve usability and conversion, especially for service-based websites.
